Project Name – Hereford Sixth Form College – Sports building
Main Contractor – William Powell & Sons (Builders) Ltd
Structural Engineer – Donald McIntyre Design Ltd
Fabricator – Goldvale Steel Fabrication Ltd

The Client

An immensely long standing, reputable and award-winning builders based in Hereford. William Powell and sons (builders) Ltd provide high quality, bespoke building services to the public and private sector throughout Herefordshire. Well known for their outstanding work historically at Hereford Sixth Form College, they have recently been awarded the contract for an exciting new development – The Sports Building.

The Project

To develop a brand new 3-storey sports building at Hereford Sixth Form College, in Hereford. The college was awarded 2.7M as part of the Post-16 Capacity Fund, which is allowing the college to accommodate rising demand and achieve greater capacity. The new building will feature new classrooms, a larger dance studio and a state of the art fitness centre with changing facilities.

The Problem

William Powell and Sons (builders) Ltd needed an Edge Protection provider who could provide a solution which could be installed and removed as necessary by their team as the project progressed.

The Solution

J-Safe provided an 1100mm steel mesh barrier edge protection solution. Barriers were ground installed to the steel frames using web fix clamps and following staff product familiarisation, conducted by J-safe, once on-site required just two of the site team to install. It was the first time William Powell and Sons have used an Edge Protection System and they had the following to say:

“We’re really impressed with this system and how it can be installed with the steelwork. Especially since it only requires members of the site team to install the system on-to the beams – it was a fast system to install.”
