The client
J-Safe were appointed by Mclaren Construction Group, a group of companies operating within the construction, property, development and investment sectors in the UK and UAE. They are becoming well known within the London region and nationally, working on a number of exciting and prominent projects including: The Hub Victoria, The Ray London, and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club Training Academy. Mclaren Construction were the main contractor involved in this project on behalf of the client, GAW Capital.
The Project
A logistically challenging and unique project, The Hub, Victoria, featured a 3-storey vertical extension, over the top of two existing, active, office blocks and some of London Victoria’s busiest railway lines. The project created 100,000ft of office space as well as new ground floor retail units, a dedicated entrance lobby and lift and improvements to the public realm.
The Problem
Mclaren Construction needed an edge protection provider who could provide a solution which could be quickly and easily secured to a steel frame. They also needed a provider who could familiarise site staff with the product to allow for quick and easy assembly, installation, transferral and eventually removal, helping to reduce project costs long term. They also needed a reliable provider who could deliver their edge protection on the day and time agreed to reduce the need for further logistical considerations.
The Solution
J-safe provided 4634LM (nearly 3 miles) of a 1100mm Steel Mesh Barrier solution which utilised the pre-set sacrificial socket edge protection system. This system allows the bottom of each system’s barriers to be positioned up to 800mm above steel beams, allowing for any beam or slab height to be installed. It is one of the quickest of any steel edge protection systems to install and uninstall, with one 
beam able to be dressed in under 1 minute, maximising time spent on other aspects of the project. On-site product familiarisation is included as standard when hiring this system meaning site staff where familiarised at no extra cost and could install, transfer and remove Edge Protection as necessary as the project progressed. This solution was delivered on-site in London at the time and date agreed, resulting in one less logistical challenge for the team to consider.
